PHOTO NEWS: NAPSS Inaugurates New Executive and Legislature, Inducts New Students

It was a great day at The Department of Political Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka as the department Friday, inducted her new students and also inaugurated the 2013/2014 elected executive and legislative members.

During the occasion, The Head of Department Dr. Makodi Biereenu Nnabugwu while welcoming the newly admitted students, urged them to be serious with their studies because that was their major aim of admission into the university.

Dr. Nnabugwu also used the opportunity to highlight the successes of his administration so far which includes the establishment of P.N Chikendu Library, establishment of an air conditioned legislative chambers for the NAPSS legislature. He also informed the postgraduate students of the department that they shall no longer use the classrooms for their lectures as adequate preparations are been concluded to secure the air conditioned chambers for them since there is no conflict between their lecture timetable and that of the legislative sittings.

The HOD also clarified why the library is yet to be functional. He disclosed that the department cannot move any documents or properties from there without the approval of the university authorities. He however stated that the department has since written the authorities over the issue and that within a short period, the library will be functional. He also stated that efforts are on to speed up the computation of results and that he has appointed Mr. Alex Agbaenyi to head the committee that was mandated to effect the decision.

During his handover remarks, the past NAPSS President Hon Ignatius Ngini urged the new administration to work harder than his government.

The Occasion witnessed the swearing in of the new executive and legislature. The executive is headed by Hon. Emeka Omaliko of the 400 level Regular Constituency. Hon. Omaliko in his inaugural speech thanked the students for the mandate they bestowed on him and promised to put in his best for the betterment of the department.

The occasion was attended by the Head of Department, Lecturers and Students.
